A carbon monoxide sensor is a device that measures carbon monoxide concentration and its accumulation over time. It will trigger an alarm when dangerous level of carbon monoxide is detected, alerting surrounding people to evacuate the area and preventing carbon monoxide poisoning.

There are two popular types of carbon monoxide senors and they vary in cost and accuracy. The electrochemical type is more accurate and sensitive while the metal oxide type is less accurate.
